De past perfect continuous is een tijd om te praten over zaken die gebeurden voor een andere actie in het verleden. Het verschil met de past perfect is dat bij de past perfect continuous de nadruk ligt op de duur van de actie; dus op het feit dat het een lange actie is of dat de actie bezig was.
